FALKLANDS - SAUNDERS ISLAND

On the small Saunders Island an outstanding albatross colony can be observed. At the "Neck", which is the flat and sandy connection between both parts of the island, also King Penguins and Gentoos are living in colonies. Staying in some accommodation (there are a couple of rooms at the settlement as well as a "cabin" directly at the "Neck") you will have to care about your meals yourself, but the friendly inhabitants are very willing to help. If you stay (quite luxuriously) at the settlement, Susan Evans (she is an excellent Landrover pilot) will bring you at the requested time to the Neck in order to experience the wild life closely.

Booking the Cabin directly at the Neck you can experience sunrise and sunset together with the animals: this is an unforgettable happening.

Apparently all visitors behave very respectfully and considerately, as there is no other explanation of the fearless behavior shown by the animals: neither the penguins nor the albatrosses seem to be disturbed by the (few) humans. Of course this also is obliged to the professional influence of the Birdwatchers and Ornithologists frequently coming across, as they are pleased to explain to anyone the rules of conduct observing wild life animals.
