FRANCE - PARIS

As well as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, climbing Montmartre is part of the list of musts. You climb up many steps to the Sacre Coeur Basilica. If you want to take it easier you can take the 'funiculaire'. Once at the top you stroll across the Place du Tertre and get to know the centre of the former hamlet of Montmartre. The street painters made famous by Gene Kelly in 'American in Paris' are still there (at least it seems so!). If you would like a portrait, follow the rules and first estimate the quality of the artist, then negotiate a price and then be a model.

Tips: The Louvre is very big and you therefore need to plan what you want to see besides the 'Mona Lisa' and the 'Venus of Milo'.
Be careful not to get into a fake taxi 'Voiture de Place' - it could turn out expensive. At low water only go on a boat trip on the Seine if you really are interested in boat jetties, river banks and often pretty poor food.
