HELLAS
The word Hellas first appears in Homer used for the land of the Hellenes that in the 5th century BC (according to Herodotus) already included the whole area populated by Greeks. In the 19th century the word was used once again for the modern Greek state as 'Greece' was no longer seen as positive. | Tip: Avoid Athens and rather go to the outer regions or the islands. |
