Once in Toraja country you quickly succumb to the magic of the exotic architecture and the native customs. The Tao Taos look down from some rocks and tell with their characteristically carved features the story of the dead who were buried here. If the many supposed leaves from the nearby trees fall off in large crowds of bats then you begin to feel you are a guest in a completely different world. Tourists are attracted more to the north for diving and swimming where everything is set up accordingly. | In the south of the country there are untouched beaches to tempt you and if you are lucky you might meet the Bugi-boat-builders in the villages who offer to build a tailor made boat for several thousand Euro - even one with two masts. |
