IRELAND

There is evidence of the first settlements in Ireland 9000 years ago, however, only in 600 BC was there a unified language and a political community due to the immigration of the Celts. Ireland is characterized by many influences - the Vikings, Normans, Britons, but none could break the people's struggle for independence. In 1955 Ireland became a republic and therefore independent from the UK although the sacrifice of Northern Ireland is to the present day still not conflict free.

If you want to get to know the country and people the county of Donegal and the Glenveagh national park are to be recommended. This park is almost the largest in Ireland and well known for its hills, bogs, lakes and woods.

Tip: If there is a fire burning on the moors in Donegal then 'High spirits' are being brewed; maybe you'll be lucky enough to get some!
