We traveled through the south and above all the north of Thailand. On a motorbike trip to the Golden Triangle we looked so disappointingly at the border to Burma (Myanmar) at Mae Hong Song over the border river to Burma (no visa...) that a Burmese person on the other bank waded over and gave us a postcard with the words 'Seeing as you can't come in, here's at least a souvenir of Burma'. These words naturally initiated us planning a trip to Burma which we could carry out a year later. The people in Thailand are extremely friendly and using a few bits of language friendships are easily made. | High up in the north of the country on the border to Laso Nong Khai is a good base for wonderful trips. In particular cycle tours through the red river area on the Thai side of the Mekong remain unforgettable, but also the many Thai islands are attractive: Koh Pee Pee, Koh Lanta and Koh Samzui are all worth a visit. |
