METROPOLIS: PRAGUE

Even in medieval times Prague was considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Many famous people succumbed to the magic of this city and made it famous: Beethoven, Rodin, and many authors such as Thomas Mann, Franz Kafka, Jaroslav Hasek and Karel Capek as well as contemporary writers such as President Vaclav Havel and Milan. In the Gold Alley in 'Hradchin' on the western side of the Vlatava you can still see a house of Kafka. The poet Jaroslav Seifert was awarded the Nobel prize for literature in 1984. Art and music have also been greatly influenced from this city: composers such as Smetana, Dvorak and Janacek have enriched the history of music.

The works of artists such as Alphonse Mucha and Frantisek Kupka played an important role in the development of European art.

Tip: Definitely visit the Laterna Magica. This is an experimental stage theatre in Prague given many international awards. Since 1959/60 it has been performing avant-garde plays with elements of shadow plays, ballet, drama and pantomime.
