VOLCANOES: BATUR (INDONESIA / BALI)
The area around Gunung Batur is spectacular: an enormous crater with a diameter of almost 11km and a height of 600m. It accommodates a crater lake, the Danau Batur as well as the active Batur volcano. The volcano had 3 considerable eruptions in 1917, 1926 and 1963. In 1994 there were slight ash and sand eruptions and a new fourth crater was formed. | Tip: In the early morning climb into the enormous crater and scale Batur on foot - it is tiring, but well worth it. |
